mail app add-ons?

Post by andru_911 »

wondering if two things could be added...
first, a script or something to change the chat bubble in the mail app toolbar to direct to adium rather than ichat...
second, a mail option in the chat window toolbar for sending e-mails quickly

can't tell you how much i'm loving 0.8 devs, thanks! 8)

The first is not really possible without hacks. I've filed a bug report asking for better 3rd party IM support from Apple, but it was marked "behaves correctly", so basically Apple just said "Nope. iChat > You".

So, when I am signed onto iChat in Tiger, Mail puts those little bubbles next to the the addresses that are online.

Even if we can't hack mail to get it to send requests to adium, could we at least have adium send the right system message so that mail notices the person is online?

I assume that mail is quering ichat in some way to see who is online. I guess if it is just going to some random system file, adium could also produce that, although if it is going directly to ichat, i guess adium can't spoof the signal?

Sorry if that makes no sense, but I would love to know how mail gets the information about online buddies from ichat or the system, since it seems like that would answer whether or not anything is possible.
