Organizing Adium information

Post by Adam Iser »

We have begun our push to better organize the information surrounding Adium. Our goal is to make things easier to manage for users and developers. We're hoping that better organization and availability of information will clear up misconceptions, misunderstandings, and make everyone happier - developers and users alike.

Your changes:
- Feature Requests should be posted to Trac. If you search before posting new requests this will cut down a TON of duplicate information and hopefully make requests easier to manage. Everyone will also have much better feedback on the status and prioritization of their requests.

- Bug Reports should be posted to Trac. Again, searching before reporting will cut down a TON of duplication information and make bugs easier to report, find, and fix. Everyone will also have much better feedback of the status and prioritization of bug fixes.

- If you have questions or need support, check Trac. If the information you seek is not in our documentation on Trac (Which is in progress :) ), then you should email support@adiumx.com .

- This forum is for Adium discussion. Feedback, Bugs reports, and Support are better handled using the methods above - not by posting to this forum. If you'd like to discuss a feature request or bug that has already been filed on Trac, you are welcome to do so here.

Thanks for your understanding and patience :).

Upcoming changes on our end:
- We are setting up a mailing list for support@adiumx.com. This should improve response times and the quality of support available.

- Answers to questions coming to support@adiumx.com will be added to the Adium documentation on Trac. In time, we hope that this online documentation will cover the majority of questions concerning Adium and save developers and users a lot of time.

- We are working on an update to adiumx.com to reflect this new information policy.

Sound good? :)

Hey Developers..
I don't wanna sound rudeor anything..
I love the idea of clearing / cleaning the forums,

but I'm affraid that ppl now will ask the same questions al over again.
where they "can't" search for the answer before doing so..

just pointing the heads up...

keep the great work up...
thanks

We want user to ask questions (preferably via support@adiumx.com), so that we can provide them with correct answers and mirror those answers in our Trac documentation.

Searching this forum is not the optimal way to find answers to questions, and this is the first step towards implementing a better system.

:D Ok great....let's hope it will work this way. but I don't mind helping :D...
Or, you can make a "thread" with the most asked questions, where us the most experience users can keep providing the link to that thread so that users can find their answer there, so you devs, don't get bothered that much....
just helping alittle bit...I'm kindda running these forum (http://www.im2.com).
so iI know it's hard

thanks

Back on funmac I did that for requests in the time span of what, 2-3 months? It grew like 70 pages and was not very manageable. We don't want that to reoccur

Yeah, did you really have to delete every thread?

Does this mean no more posting your desktop threads? I liked those, they were fun to see how people customized both their adium and their macs...

The threads are not deleted. They are just hidden.

Mods can see them (and I'm not one of them) but they are there just in case some are needed.

Sorry to post again, but I had one more general question. If/When we post a trac comment should we also make a thread in here so others can know what we've suggested or requested? Or should we just keep it in the trac without giving notice to it? Thanks!
Love,

Can't see why that would be a problem :)

If there's another thread you'd like unhidden let us know. Thanks for your understanding with this. :)

We're hoping to accomplish this with the wiki documentation (at trac.adiumx.com ). We'll put answers to questions there and link users to the information.

Since you moved the bugs, etc. to Trac, you might want to put a link to it on your homepage and more prominently here in the forums. I was browsing the "bug" forum looking for YIM protocol issues, when it disappeared on me :( I remembered some posts mentioning a new bug repository, but didn't remember it's name or location, so checked the homepage, then looked in the general forum for a post about bugs or bug reporting, but didn't find anything in either place.

It was only later, when I decided to browe the general forum. that I found the links in this post.
