MSN ADIUM THREAD

Post by thelouisguy »

I do not know if this is an acceptable post under the new policies.

I thought I would start a post with ideas on how to get Adium to resemble MSN, ICQ, AIM, iChat, Yahoo!, Gadu-Gadu, Jabber, and any other client I have failed to mention. I will start by getting this post going.

MSN Messenger
To get Adium to resemble MSN Messenger, I have put to gether this package that includes other people's works as well as my own. I have given credit where credit is due, but for the most part, I have work on this for some time now. You can download it here http://www.thelouisguy.com/adiumx.

I hope everybody enjoys this package and I look forward to other users input and feedback.

Absolutely acceptable! A quick summary of the new policy is this: search trac before starting a new thread about a bug or a feature request; file such items using trac tickets, bringing such issues into the forums only when necessary (i.e. discussing ramifications of a new feature, polling the audience, etc.) Any sort of general discussion, modification information, etc. is perfectly alright here. Hope that clears it up a bit, and neat mod :)

Thanks!
Has anyone else modified Adium in an interesting way? I'd like to see some screen shots of what other users have done. I don't want this to turn into the Adium screenshots in action thread, I just want this to be a place to display the mods people have done ;)

Everything should be open source, and yes, open source IS great! ;)

With the status icons, I have changed the meanings slightly. In MSN, everybody is green with a small icon in front, and you are red if you are offline. I really like the color scheme Adium uses (iChat too). So I decided to respect those colors, and add a small symbol in front of specific (like Out To Lunch) away statuses. I kept them red because they still are technically away. I like the Be Right Back idea that the MSN emoticon uses Image so I also adapted that to my BRB status icon.

I havent, but I just had a great idea for the next version of that MSN adium.
How about changing the install .dmg directly?

That's a good idea, although...
I like giving people the option to pick and choose what they want to install. Also, I give people the original images too so that if they don't like it, they can easily go back. Plus, I would have to make two versions, one Adium and one Metal Adium (cos I use Metal Adium and I do not know if everyone would want to use that). The way I bundled it is just an easier way to get it around. Although I will see what I can do ;)

Of course, MSN isn't metal yet. ;) But I suppose that's artistic licence.

The thing is that many users don't want so spend time config adium themselfs..... so a out-of-the-box msn adium is a good idea.

MacCuajo: hence the small-but-important "yet" in what I wrote before. :)

Done and done! I have put together two version of MSN Adium. One Aqua version and one Metal version.
On a smaller note, MSN seems to have added a new goat emoticon (nah), so I have updated the emoticon set to include it!

Please let me know what you think everyone ;)

Very much thanks for the emoticons, I've realized that when talking to my MSN contacts they're using lots of emoticons. So I would've gone to the xtras site, but since it's down (and I don't know if there are any emoticonset with all MSN emoticons in it there) I'm glad I found this.

You're welcome. Did anyone else know about the goat? Cos I found out about it by accident. I was on my brother's PC looking thru MSN's .exe file with eXeScope and saw this GOAT image. So I signed in using his computer and sure enough, there it was, a Goat! I copied the picture over to my computer and put it in my emoticon set.
GOAT!!!
