Showing display names in contacts

Post by FOOOD »

I've been upgrading to the latest version of Adium each time the latest ones come out, & I've messed up my preferences a bit lately.
So I deleted my preferences to start from scratch.

But now the names on the contact list show the email address (e.g. 'name@hotmail.com') instead of of the display name, nickname or whatever.

I've tried going through the preferences to make the contact list show the display name but can't seem to manage it.
Can anyone help? :?

(I'm only using a MSN account if it makes any difference).

Preferences->Advanced->MSN then decheck "Show display names as status message". Quit and relaunch Adium, that should do it.

I like the email address/ username above and below, but is there a way to get the email address to be subordinate to the display name/status? it would be useful, then instead of an annoyance

at the moment, it is

contact@hotmail.com
display name (away)

yes, i meant that liked this feature, but it places emphasis on the email address over the display name. i want the display name clear, with the email address underneath, greyed out, just to occaisionally confirm who it is. there doesn't seem to be this option.

where can i post suggestion for future releases? and how likely are they to be implemented? i mean, if you suggest something to apple, for example, it'll only get implemented if 100,000 other people had the same idea... how influentual is a suggestion?

Ah, I understand, you want basically the inverse of the existing preference, to use the email address as the extended status and treat the display name as normal.

Lots of factors... we don't have a cut-and-dry "if X people request it we will do it." The biggest question: Will 80% or more of users find this feature beneficial? Other competing factors: How neat/interesting is it? What's the cost/benefit ratio on implementing it? Is a developer fighting a bout of insomnia and needing something to occupy his mind? :)

Also, "Does Evan have impending exams?" has been a major factor in a lot of work, eh?
