Why has Adiumy changed colour?

Post by Krypton »

If you compare the original artwork (below) or earlier icons to the latest Dock icon, you will notice Green Adiumy now has more of a yellow tint.

Is there any particular reason for this? I quite liked the grass green Adiumy :(

Hmmmm he only seems to have a yellow tint in the Dock, all is fine in the Finder. How odd :?

Yeah I noticed this too, the Adiumy on adiumx.com looks better than the more dull version in the dock IMO, but I think the change was for a reason -> http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/69

I don't quite see what was wrong, the new hue looks slightly yucky.

I think it started happening when they fixed the Radioactive Adiumy problem. It has something to do with the way Tiger handles .png files. So there is no more radioactive Adiumy, but he is a slightly funky color now...

Well, obviously it's not a proper fix then, is it?

Heh, that's true. I'll be glad to take another look at this once I get home tonight and see if I can figure out what's really happening since my first fix didn't actually work.

The brighter adiumy was fine. Why don't you guys just change it back?

The main issue I see is that the Dock Adiumy would look different from all the others then (if I understand the radioactive adiumy issue correctly). Also, if someone remakes the radioactive one, we may need to run it through pngcrush again, since that happened after the fix.

I don't have time right now to do this for all the icons, but I did an experiment and this seems to work much better than my last "fix." Run this pngcrush command on them:

pngcrush -rem gAMA -rem cHRM -rem iCCP -rem sRGB filename.png filename2.png

It'll verify that all color profiles are totally stripped.

Damn, sorry about the yellowness. This is a comparison of pre- and post- pngcrushing. Also the app icon from Adium is in the top left. Looks like a much better match, no?

I'll update the trac ticket with a link to a new zipfile that has truly fixed icons.

If anybody wants the fixed dock icons now, they're right here. And of course, let me know if they still look wrong (but hopefully I got it right this time).
