Default Font in FormattingDefaults.plist File

Post by TheLastShack »

I know this was a problem back in .7x, and it still seems to be:

When I change the message font in Adium, it appears to only change for ME to see in the message windows, but not actually the font that sends out. To change the font for sending messages, the FormattingDefaults.plist file must be edited manually. Is this supposed to change when changing the font in Adium, or is this how it will stay? If it is supposed to change, it is a bug.

NOTE: Also posted on trac.

Thanks... odd workaround, but it works and it's easier than editing that file.

Hmm… is Trac down?

That happens occasionally, but I just wanted to ask other people ;)

It's not a work around, it's the way things are supposed to be done. :)

If the wiki is the way it's supposed to be done, how can you set the font for the display box where you see your own text as you type?

That's the font you set in the font panel.

Workaround? That's how you do it, it's not a workaround :-P

That's what I'd been having trouble with. It's working now, though I don't know what I managed to do differently.

I opened a new message, selected 'Show Fonts', selected my font (verdana) and typed. the text was helvetica, and the selection in the font menu reverted to helvetica.

i selected the text i just typed and selected verdana in the font menu. the text did not change. further typing remained in helvetica and the font menu reverted to highlighting helvetica.

i was able to change the color of the text. but the font would not change.

am i doing something wrong? suggestions?

thanks

slop: the same thing happened to me recently. Someone here suggested hitting Option-UpArrow to scroll through previously-sent messages until you get back to one with the font you like. That worked for me.

Could it by any random chance only be screwing up when trying to choose verdana? Because I'm having the same problem as slop (trying to switch back to Verdana), but it seems to work for everyone else.

Nope, I was trying to use Comic Sans.

My default font is verdana 11 using the colour 660000 and I never have a problem setting it :) Definitely not font-specific.

Yea, kinda figured it wasn't, but couldn't hurt to ask.

Although, it does seem to be working fine now. :)

I've had that problem with font reverting too.. i resorted to restarting adium.. it seems to be connected with the font reset 'feature' by sending an empty message, where if you reset it to many times the font kinda gets stuck with helvetica (which is default).. tha'ts jz my theory anyway.. so don't hold me to it :P..

thx.. didn't know that feature.. could be quite useful..
any other obscure shortcuts we should know? or is it all in the wiki? :P
