[feature] Hiding the contacts-window, like Mac OS X's dock

Post by keesj »

Hi,

I think it would be a cool feature if Adium's contact-list would auto-hide when you are not working with it. Like the Dock can. And when you move your mouse to the side of the screen, the list appears above al other applications.

Ofcourse, this feature could be turned off if you like.

Thoughts?

Some of our community members worked on this very idea, but it isn't working perfectly yet. It may be included in a future release, as we all do like the idea!

That sounds like a good idea but what happens if some one signs on? How do you know if someone does? Well, you could use Growl. Anyway, you could have the contact's name or their icon bounce, like dock icons do whan an application needs your attention. This would defentaly be a feature that you would want to be able to disable because icons bouncing out of the dock can be annoying. Just an idea.

I expect that, if you are the kind of person who would hide the contact list like this, you don't mind having a little less info about who has signed on or off. However, the dock also can show (briefly) who has signed on or off.

As can growl... <edit> just noticed that was mentioned </edit>

One thing I intend to look into (take with a huge grain of salt, since that's a big big list) in the future is making a Dashboard widget contact list. That, plus growl to let me know what's happening would be ideal for me.
