Font problems...
I have trouble adjusting fonts in my profile/away messages
The color changes fine, but if I try to change the font, it doesn't change and reverts back to the old one. Also, trying to bold or italicize fonts don't work, even though underlining does.
What is the problem?

searching in the support section of the adiumx site would have gotten you this result:

I tried making a ticket for this, but the one that I *think* I need to add on to is making Safari crash, so I'm stuck with posting it (unless you guys think it's worth it to make a new ticket on this?).
In .82, everything was work dandy, then out of no where, my font color disappears. I didn't hit enter or anything. I typed a message, sent it, went to a different window, came back to Adium, and then my font in both of my message windows was somehow reset. The font type and size seems to have held intact, but the color is back to black (I have it set to eggplant). I checked my preferences and everything is as it should be there.
Please help.
Edit: After going into fonts and changing the color for one message (by going into the format menu), it seems to work fine in all of messages.
I'm so confused.

Nothing in the preferences at the moment changes your default font. The way to make a default font at the moment in Adium is to go through the format menu. The preference you may be looking at in the preferences is for the message display, not sending font/colour.Rita wrote:I tried making a ticket for this, but the one that I *think* I need to add on to is making Safari crash, so I'm stuck with posting it (unless you guys think it's worth it to make a new ticket on this?).

The format menu is the correct path to take.

It's a "feature" that resets your formatting to default if you try to send an empty message
ok.. from what i can see on the forums.. there are a few people (me included) who consider this more an annoyance than a feature.. i won't talk about y i hate it.. cos it's the same reason as the other people.. but yea.. for the sake of users who find it useful.. please make this an option 'feature'...
at first i was confused at y my font kept getting reset.. eventually i couldn't set the font anymore.. somehow adium kept resetting the font everytime i focused on the chat textbox.. so i had to restart adium to get my font pref back..
actaully.. second thoughts.. keep the default font thing.. but let the users set the default font plz~..
on related note.. everytime i send an image/file (via msn) the font gets reset also.. and this happens if i change the system script (to chinese /japanese, for example) and switch back.. also when i drag text into the text box.. the font gets changed completely..
from my perspective.. when i set a font.. i bascailly expect it to stay that way until i explicitly change it.. ie.. changing my font after i type enter twice/send a file/change the script/drag sum text in isn't really helpful.. can get rather frustrating at times..
ps.. jz read thru the topic again.. and this didnt' seem the most fitting topic to post it.. but it's the most recent relevant topic.. so yea..

Thanks, Adam, that was the ticket that I couldn't access last night.Adam Iser wrote:See this ticket on the font resetting - http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/607

The weird part is that I had not tried sending an empty message. I sent a regular message and then tabbed over to Safari (maybe it read the tabbing as trying to send an empy message?). Ah well, seems to work now, so whatever.
And I noticed that you fixed it so that we can set our default settings! That's awesome!
Ah, that makes sense now. Thanks.jstamos wrote:Nothing in the preferences at the moment changes your default font. Although, now I have probably a stupid question. Under the prefrences pane, in messages, when I change the text display, is that only changing what I see, or how it appears to the recepient as well? I assumed it was similar to changing the font that both of us saw, but from what you said, I was assuming incorrectly?

Yes. Restoring default formatting will bring it back to Helvetica. Closing the window will save the formatting for all future IMs.Sirius wrote:i changed the font and colour, sent a message and closed the window as per instructions in the wiki.. but when i 'restored default formatting' the fonts went back to helvetica (or watever it is.. not what i chose anyway).. am i misunderstanding wat the wiki means by the settings will stick?

I've seen this problem in OS X before... other apps do it sometimes, too. Does it still do it through a restart and reload cycle?wsykes wrote:If I try to change the font, and then send a message like the wiki says to, it changes back to the default as soon as I type something. It doesn't seem to work when I change the font at the end and try to send then either.
Any suggestions?

Just meant to restart your computer and then reload Adium. Reinstalling wouldn't change anything.wsykes wrote:Restart and reload meaning reinstall of Adium?evands wrote:I've seen this problem in OS X before... other apps do it sometimes, too. Does it still do it through a restart and reload cycle?
This has been happening with me in Adium consistently for the last several months. I'm pretty sick of Helvetica 12 at this pointevands wrote:Just meant to restart your computer and then reload Adium. Not to challenge the devs or anything, but can anyone explain what the logic is behind not having a "Set Default Outgoing Font" setting in the preferences? It seems like this would be implemented already unless there's a good reason not to implement it, so I wonder what that reason is. Font setting complaints do tend to crop up periodically. Why not just add another button to the messages sub-preference?
Guys, check this out: http://trac.adiumx.com/changeset/12459
It sounds like they've already heard our pleas and will implementing the change in the next go round (please correct me if I'm wrong).
