Dock icons mostly not working

Post by TheArchpadre »

Okay, I've tried searching the trac and the forums and not found anything like this, so hopefully I'm not asking a question that was answered months ago.

I just did a clean install of Tiger. (I had previously been running Panther.) Not wanting to lose anything from Adium, I backed up ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/ and copied it wholesale into that same location on the new installation.

Everything else has slotted into place, but the dock icons are acting strangely. I can select them in the preferences, but my dock icon doesn't change. The following icon packs I know work:

ChatDoc 3
ChatDoc
LCD
glitchhium
iChat
iChatClear
iChatGraphite
iChatLime
iChatPlum
iChatStrawberry
iChatTangerine
Adiumy Blue
Adiumy Green
Adiumy Purple
Adiumy Red
Adiumy Yellow

Some of the ones which don't work include xAdium, Glassy 1.3 and 2.0, ChatDoc P&P, and Milk. I've tried various combinations of quitting Adium, deleting the xAdium icon pack, re-opening Adium and reinstalling the icon pack, but it hasn't helped.

Thoughts?

I just tried ChatDoc P&P in Adium 0.82 and it worked fine for me. Is anything logged to the Console (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app) when you switch to it?
The duck still burns.

Nope, no console messages.

Did you zip or compress or do anything while backing up that may have corrupted those icon packs?

I coped my entire ~/Library onto a DVD, along with the rest of my data. If there was any compression involved, I didn't see it.

Also, I redownloaded the xAdium icon pack, reinstalled from that, and it still didn't work.

Okay, here's another interesting detail. I just downloaded Glassy 3.0 -- which I didn't have before -- and installed it. It doesn't work either.

So . . . no ideas then?

I've also tried trashing most of my ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/ folder, including Users, Dock Icons, and most other things. No help.

You're not using any sort of program to customize your application and system icons are you? If so, maybe that could cause some inteference?

Nope. It's a totally clean install; no customization gimmickery whatsoever.

Your hard drive is HFS+ formatted and not UFS, right?

"Get Info" says the format is "Mac OS Extended (Case-senstive, Journaled)". Any of that significant?

Why case-sensitive? Case-sensitive is not the norm for Mac drives.

I don't really have a good reason. It's a new hard drive, so I needed to create a volume. I looked at the various formatting options and figured "Sure, case-sensitive. Sounds like a nice blend of UNIX and Mac."

It's why these are not working for you.

Well I'll be damned. I went in and looked at my ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Dock Icons/ and saw that ChatDoc's extension is ".AdiumIcon" while Glassy and xAdium have the extension ".adiumicon". Changing them caused them to work. Thanks.

That's because it's case sensitive :)
