Back in the day, Trillian had a plugin called "Buddy Pounce" which auto messaged an AIM buddy when an event was triggered such as when they came online from offline.
Does adium have some way of doing this? Perhaps a script of some sort? Being able to leave a msg for someone while they're offline and having them receive it while you're not available to send it is a helpful feature. 8)
Auto Message/Buddy Pounce?
Unless I am missing something this is not quite the same as buddy pounce. With the adium event mechanism the events are permanent until manually removed. One of the fundamental ideas behind buddy pounce is that it can be set up as a temporaray alert/event that only fires once.
Given a transient event, eg one that goes away after it fires once, it is also somewhat inconvenient to have to go through a number of steps to add such an event.
That said, I do like the adium event mechanism for the more general case. It just would be nice to be able to add a simple one time event directly from the buddy list.

See zaudragon's post up above. When you choose to "Send Later," the event is a one-time-only event. So I just fire up a message window, type what i want, and then click "Send Later."Cathail wrote:Unless I am missing something this is not quite the same as buddy pounce. If you Get Info on a user, you can set different events. When you do, check the box marked "Delete after event occurs", and it will only fire once.Cathail wrote:Unless I am missing something this is not quite the same as buddy pounce. *nod* Speifically, the "Send Later" button in the message window is actually an in-program shortcut to
Get Info on Contact->Events->Add an event for "Contact is Seen"->Set the action to "Send Message"->Set the message text to your message->Click "Delete after event occurs"->Click OK. You can see pending messages sent via Send Later in the Get Info->Events tab just as you can any other event/action pair.
