Being Constantly Logged Off
Being Constantly Logged Off
Hello,
I'm having a problem where I'm constantly being logged out on one of my aim accounts. The funny thing is that I have another account with the same exact settings (login server & proxy) and that account works just fine. Seems like the problem started after I downloaded the latest version (.082). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Constantly being logged off AIM
I am constantly being logged off of AIM using AdiumX 0.82. (It also happens under 0.81, I checked). For a while it logs back on, but eventually I get the following error message:
jeffdickersn (AIM) : Gaim error
You have been connecting and disconnecting too frequently. Wait ten minutes and try again. If you continue to try, you will need to wait even longer.
I'm connecting via HTTP proxy.
This has not always been happening, and both Yahoo and MSN stay connected without any trouble.
Did AOL make a change to their system? Any ideas what to do?

Are you logged onto more than one AIM account? And if so, is that the only one that's having the problem?
If not, then I doubt it's Adium. If you're only logged into one AIM account, that's the account having the problem, and the other accounts are fine, it sounds like AIM is having issues. I remember having the same problem when I used to use the official client.

Re: Constantly being logged off AIM
That's exactly what is happening to me (below quote). It doesn't matter if I have 2 aim accounts open at the same time. Even if the one is just open, it still logs me on and off. My other aim account works just fine. Very frustrating. Grrrr

I get knocked off of all of my accounts--every one--not just AIM. It's driving me bonkers. I leave Adium up so I can get messages from people even if I'm not around but when I come back, I get a string of GAIM errors (one for each account) and the damn thing doesn't want to reconnect all of my accounts on its own. In fact, I have to go through and individually reconnect each account. Just setting the main status pulldown to "available" only reconnects MSN. Is there something that I can do to get Adium to just automatically re-connect?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Please describe your network setup (internet connection, routers, wirelesss, etc.) if you are having issues with it not reconnecting when the network comes up. Does it reconnect when waking from sleep? Please post to http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/1420 if it does not reconnect when waking from sleep, including the above information.
No worries--honestly, what you've told me has helped me realize that it is all about my connection--which has been very flakey as of late. It drops out at odd times and I don't know why and can't find any pattern to it.
So, thanks for your suggestion! I just hope I can work out why my connection keeps flaking.

Hi, I am seeing the same problem as 'thepete' - if I leave my desk for a while when I come back there is a pop-up on the screen with "Gaim error".
It only appears to occur when my screen is asleep (although my mac isn't asleep - I don't sleep the computer).
My setup is:
mac mini.
Tiger 10.4.2 (all updates installed).
adiumX 0.84
100BT ethernet into Zyxel 660HW ADSL modem/router.
iiNet ADSL (Australia)
I wasn't seeing this problem before installing Tiger (clean install not an upgrade).
I also have no problem if I run Proteus - (but its ugly and non-free).
Ideas?

Sorry to partially hijack this thread, but I'm having quite a few connection problems at school. I'm behind a pretty restrictive school network (they use websense and who knows what else). The network connection in my room isn't the best (but it'll still disconnect if I have a strong connection). I'm trying to track down what's causing the frequent disconnections and my latest idea is there are DNS issues; but I was wondering if I could get Adium to make a log so when it disconnects I can try to figure out what happened (sorry if this is extremely obvious on the main site, I have a limited amount of time to spend on most "non-educational" sites and I don't want to use it all up).
I have not tried .82 yet, I might do so.

Similar problem here. For the last week or so I've been getting disconnected from one of my two AIM accounts (but only one of them). When I attempt to reconnect I receive an Authentication Error.
Out of curiosity, I attempted to log onto AIM Express using the same account, and was told I was signed in but that the AIM Network was unavailable.
It seems to me that the AIM Network has been having some issues lately and gaim just doesn't know what sort of error to display to correspond with these issues.

I'm on .88 now and I still have this problem. While Adium does try to reconnect, it's still not trying long enough. In fact, AIM has started spitting back error messages that I've tried to connect too many times within a too short amount of time. I'd just assume see a return of the "connect all" option in the file menu as I mentioned in another thread only to remember this thread while typing that other post
Regardless, of how many times it tries to reconnect, I'll still find Adium unconnected and reconnecting for every account I've got individually is a huge pain in the butt with my wicked unreliable cable broadband connection. (In other words, I still don't think it's Adium's fault that I keep getting logged off, I just wish it would allow me to log back on with ease.)
