Jabber questions (trying it out)

I'm trying out Jabber (usually use AIM), looking through the Jabber user guide, and have a couple questions for how to do things in Adium...

-I can't make the echo service on jabber.org work (although I can send messages to myself) - should a new message from my newly-registered (and online) jabber account to "jabber.org/echo" do that?
-Is it possible to edit user information / profile / JUD information? How about looking up?
-How do I do 'handshakes' for presence? Since I don't know any other Jabber users, this is moot so far, but I noticed that nothing like that happened when I added myself to my Roster/CL.
-Can I use transports?

I would like to know the answer to the last question. It would be in my best interest, too, if these were answered. Maybe I'm blind, but I haven't managed to find any answers regarding using transports on the Adium website, or even with a google search -- but I have seen it mentioned.

You can't set up transports in Adium. Your can in Psi however.

I tried that, and hated it. Looks really bad. Hmm… maybe it’s time for an irssi message view
