GAIM's blocking feature is awesome!

Post by Union »

I have to use a PC for work (blegh), so I use GAIM for IM. I have to say, I really, really like the implementation of GAIM's privacy feature. I have it so that only my co-workers can see my on my screenname when I am at work. If I want everyone to see me, all I have to do is go to the privacy window, change it to "allow all" and it dynamically switches. It's really convenient, well-implemented. I don't block people in Adium because I'm still a bit iffy on how to do it, so I've always been going to iChat to do it. But the GAIM way seems very good. What do people think? :)

Blocking interfaces are currently being implemented in source.

To keep up with such developments, join the developer mailing list.

The Adium mailing list? Or the GAIM one? I'd like to sign up to Adium's but have no clue how..

Blocking is in Adium… not very good though. In 0.9 you’ll have a list of blocked/unblocked contacts.

I'm not sure if this is how gaim does it... but it would be neat if you could have user made states or modes of blocking, eg in state1 ('work ppl only') i block person b and d, in state2 ('no work ppl') i block person a and c. Kind of like the away system statuses now. Possibly even integration between them, or in the same window... pick your away status, pick the list of people who will see you (or rather wont see you).

Would be great for me to block/be offline to a few of the pestering people while I'm trying to get work done, yet still want to allow others to contact me. That would be hot :D

Talked about it… should still be on this page. Well, the answer was “do it manually” or “use another account.”
