Can't delete contacts; Contacts rearranging themselves

Post by Daveecee »

Because both of these problems have occured both in and outside beta (usually outside) I'm going to post them here.

Problem 1: I can not delete contacts. For some odd reason, when I try to delete a contact from my list, it will show them as gone for a time. However, later, the contact will reappear in a different group. They simply shift around, never fully deleting.

EDIT: I deleted my blist.xml and this, maybe, hopefully, will work.

Problem 2: Whenever I update Adium, beta or no, my contacts get all rearranged into groups they shouldn't be in. Buddies get shifted into Good Friends, Family gets shifted into groups that don't even exist anymore, and a few people end up in the "Myself" group with me :P I then have to rearrange all contacts manually.

Any suggestions for fixing (at least temporarily) these problems?

Try using the official client for whatever protocol your using. I've had problems re-arranging between MSN groups with Adium and had to use MSN messenger.

Well, thing is, it's happening with all protocols. AIM, MSN, YIM, ICQ... Whatever. I'm sure as heck not going to go back to using the official AIM client... The Mac version sucks :?

Also, I deleted the blist.xml, and that didn't help with either problem. The buddy I've been trying to delete keeps coming back and rotating groups.

I think you misunderstood. I think he meant to try deleting the contact in the official protocal, then go back to adium and see if the change held. That usually works.

Well, I see the problem. Viewing the setup of my buddy list on the official AIM client, either Adium or AIM is putting every contact in every group. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Unfortunately, I don't think so. I constantly have a problem that when I add or delete a contact in Adium, the list in the official AIM client gets all screwy (but it's perfectly fine in Adium). My guess is that it changing the list in Adium somehow confuses AIM, which in turn screws up Adium...although why that would be the case is beyond me.

so was there a good answer to this.... My contacts are hotmail contacts and I can remove them from msn client and they do not come back... I can remove them from adium and/or move them to a new group and the will magically end up back.....in the original group....
