I hate to do a feature request...

...but this is one I think is right up Adium's alley, and is easy to pull off.

Basically, AOL Instant Messenger has a nice feature where you can send an IM to a cell phone. For example, if you send a message to +18605554321, then the message is sent to someone with that cell phone number.

Seeing how nice Adium is with using your address book for gathering information, maybe a control/right click option on someone's name that says "Send Mobile Message", and instead of opening a window to their (AIM) screen name, it opens a window to their phone number.

I guess it wouldn't be hard if you kept their info in their address book under one name, it would save you a list of phone numbers that hardly mean anything to you at a glance. I know I don't like having the ugly long list of people's cell phone numbers, trying to figure out who's number is who, and then turning the triangle sideways back up to hide them all.

Again, sorry for a feature request. I hate asking for more from the hand that feeds, but I think this can benefit a lot of people.

No problem with a feature request I don't think (not a dev so I can't speak for them) but you should file it under a trac ticket.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot a link: http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/RequestingFeatures

I just put the two or three cell phones I message regularly on my buddy list, and add them to the metacontact of the person. :)
The duck still burns.
