Interesting stuff. If anyone can take on AOL, it's Google.Google executives say they plan to unveil on Wednesday a "communications tool" that is potentially a clear step beyond the company's search-related business focus.
While executives would not disclose what the new software tool might be, Google has long been expected to introduce an instant messaging service to compete with services offered by America Online, Yahoo and MSN from Microsoft.
Google Instant Messenger?

It seems to work fine in Adium already (using talk.google.com as server, and checking the TLS checkbox).phil333 wrote:It's going to be jabber based, so can't we use it with Adium?
You can log in with any GMail account. It even uses the full name of the contacts from the GMail setup.

Wow, you’re good. Another thing: talk.google.com will be the site when it’s up; someone sent a jabber raw command via telnet and it worked there.chr wrote:It seems to work fine in Adium already (using talk.google.com as server, and checking the TLS checkbox).phil333 wrote:It's going to be jabber based, so can't we use it with Adium?
