Turn off spell check?

Post by Einrel Koral »

The spell check feature is kind of getting on my nerves, especially since it underlines words like "katana" in red while I type them. It's not a huge deal, but is there a way to turn it off? Thanks.

Let's see. I think if you go to Edit>Spelling>and uncheck 'Check Spelling as you type", or something like that, it'll turn it off.

...Wow. I can't believe I missed that. In my defense, this is my first Mac and I just got it today. Still, I am blind. Thanks. XD

No problem, and congrats on getting a Mac.

You can also make it learn or ignore properly spelled words by control-clicking on the properly spelled word and selecting either "Learn Spelling" or "Ignore Spelling".

If you ctrl-click in most text boxes, go to "Spelling," and either check or uncheck "Check Spelling as You Type."

Is there any way to turn this off by default, though? I'm getting really tired of disabling the spellchecker every time I open a new chat window.

i believe it follows whatever is set in Safari. Open up safari, and while you have a text box selected, follow the same method to turn it off.

Thanks for your reply. It seems spellchecking is already turned off in Safari. Could this be an Adium bug? The setting seems to stick in most other apps I've disabled it in.
