I bet you have multiple GrowlHelperApp instances running, and each is posting.

Console is an app in /Applications/Utilities. Open it and you will see log messages of applications.
See if there is something about growl there.

ooo yeah I knew what console logs were... but I just check and no, it doesnt log.
