MSN Personal Message support?

Post by freshj »

Hey, I think it would be a good idea if Adium supported the Personal Message that MSN for Windows supports.

Adium uses the work of another project called Gaim to connect to the Microsoft servers.

The Gaim team needs to update their implementation of MSN before Adium gets things like custom status messages. It's coming soonish and if you'd like to follow the progress of this update, I'd suggest you visit this page regularly (I haven't seen a better place to monitor this). When this has been completed, then Adium will benefit from this soon afterwards.

Currently work on the patch has stalled for a few reasons - there's a few tiny little issues remaining and none of the devs have much time to work on Gaim 2.0.0 (which is the version the patch will be implemented in). I'm anxiously looking forward to this feature, too.

Kiel :)

For those of us who have never used Windows Messenger (and basically no Windows experience other than a few games, and accidently getting a virus on someones computer when trying to install AIM for him ) *points to self*, what exactly are the personal message thingys?

I'm pretty sure a personal message is a custom status message. Something like a "Work" or "Chillin' out. Call me' away message.
the sky is going to crush you.

Check out this image to see what it looks like on the Windows front.

Think custom statuses in AIM.

It also has a "What I'm Listening To" option in the official client that will set it to whatever you happen to be playing in Windows Media Player. This is a great way to find out what music your friends like and to humiliate yourself when you 'accidentally' start playing your sister's Britney Spears. :D

Well, since we're wandering off topic...
I will confess that when Toxic was getting played by the DJs at a certain seedy bar we hang out at, one particular hottie would grab me, run to the dance floor and spend most of the song grinding against me. He's a bit mischievous like that.
So if nothing else, I think of that song fondly.

Fair enuff - I have my share of sentimental songs :-)

zerock, did you create that feature request on the gaim sourceforge page? Good job :-) Hopefully MSNP11 come around soon...
