MSN Login not working.

Post by Alchemist »

Hi guys,

Great programme adium by the waym congratulations on all the success. Keep it coming, I use it everyday! Right... my problem.

I have changed nothing, and am using the latest version of Adium X (0.84). Tonight however, it has stopped logging in to MSN. I can use MSN via MSN Web Messenger, and the MSN status page reporst everything as rosy, but in Adium, no cigar. Any ideas?

Microsoft could’ve changed their protocol a little so that Gaim, and as a result Adium and Proteus, break but MSN Messenger doesn’t.

Thats what I was thinking to be honest. Anyone from the Adium team got any idea as to whether this is the case?

Cheers guys.

Just so you know, this is the error message I get.

-------------------------------------------------------------
ant_hart@hotmail.com (MSN) : Gaim error

Connection error from Notification server
(207.46.4.70):
Writing error

--------------------------------------------------------------

Hope this helps. I love Adium, but being from the UK, I use the MSN protocol most of all. I would be most scuppered if it ceased to work! Any ideas?[/b]

that sounds like it could be a server or possibly a connection error... hmm I am not sure.

I am in the UK also. This is most odd. What ISP are you with? I am beginning to think maybe NTL have changed something that has stopped this working!

Can any of the Adium developers give me a heads up on what this error message means?

I'm with NTL too. This is weird - what can it be? :?

Is it working now? It could have been Microsoft's servers being down, maybe.

Nope still no luck! Maybe I should start trashing Preference files. Anyone got any bright ideas as to which ones ought to go first?

Or it could just be my NTL servers in my local area playing up or something like that. I am stuck. And bummed!

A bit of research has pulled up that I am not the only person experiencing this problem. Similar examples can be found here:

Looks like my beloved Adium has a serious problem! I am going to have to switch back to MSN for the mean time because I simply cannot get by without MSN IM'ing. Pain in the ass. Lets try and get this situation sorted quickly. Give me a shout if there is anything I can do.

If you’re that worried, use Jabber and its transports for MSN.
