Idle timer/Automatically set away
Idle timer/Automatically set away
For me, neither the 'let others know I am idle after xxx minutes', nor the 'After xxx minutes of inactivity, set away' seem to work. I found no reference to this on trac, so I thought I'd ask here if others are experiencing similar problems. Anyone?
Ah, thanks. Explains it. Does this include internet/hard drive activity? Thinking of torrent downloads and such...
Does anyone know if it would be possible to make an alternative function that allows for automatically setting away/idle after xxx minutes of no *Adium* activity? (i.e. no msn, icq and so forth activity. As in me not writing any messages, not adding any contacts, and not requesting any contact info.)

I'm pretty sure that "no activity" only pertains to user input. Move the mouse at all, hit a key, sometimes plugging things in, that'll count as activity. After all, why should your AIM buddies be interested in wether your computer is doing things? Presumably they're more interested in your personal activities.
I think an Adium-only idle timer would be very limited in application. It'd cause you to go in and out of idle often and it'd be another preference in the program.
If you're concerned about people knowing if you're they're, you can opt to turn off showing your idleness entirely, or you can manually set an idle status (and time you've been away) in Adium that will insist to the AIM servers that you haven't been doing anything to un-idle it, even if you've been sending IMs left and right.

I know this is an old thread but I couldn't find any recent posts about this. Is a feature like this something the developers would ever consider adding? Gaim has this feature where you only go out of idle if you send a message, etc.Githon wrote:I think an Adium-only idle timer would be very limited in application.
