On the 'ium', my Tetris clone was named 'Pertetride'.. coincidence? I've also heard rumors that an atom icon predated the duck!

I read on the old Adium site that the original icon was supposed to be a bird, like a messenger bird, but the artist's "skillz" resulted in a duck-like figure

'Twas supposed to be sort of like a duck flavored bird. Pretty messed up.
