wouldn't there be a possibility to change resolutions as to screw up one of both screens? (an iMac shouldn't be able to handle 75Hz but a newer screen does)

Fo shizzle. If your dad doesn't want you to use it, maybe he's got a good reason. Like maybe Al Quaida's brainwashing kids who disobey their parents and use IM to do their evil biddings, and your dad is actually a secret government agent, which is obviously how he knows this stuff. Now that I put my two and a half cents in, and before it gets anymore ridiculous...LOCKY PLEASE!!! *dances with lock that SHOULD show up*

There is a point where you need *trust* otherwise you all you do is foster animosity. Yeah your kid is safe, but you're paranoid and over-stressed. You also need to prepare kids to be responsible for when you're not around. I can't tell you how many kids I've seen come to college, being sheltered and controlled all through childhood, and just go nuts with no idea on how to be responsible on their own.

Back on topic, don't do anything to make it worse like use Adium secretly.

But parents tend to not be all paranoid without being pressured to by their children which give them good reason to.

Same reason I gave in another thread:

Angst.

Except this time it's not hilariously wrong to have angst, being an adolescent/teen.

I think we all just find the dancing lock amusing. Or at least, I know I do. :)

Exactly! :D No need to lock it, just post a pic of the dancing lock. Somewhere...maybe a sticky post or something...but no need to go to all that extra work, I got it somewhere on my HD, I think.

Yeah. If he finds out, "Yousa be's in biiiig doodoo dis time" (for lack of a better quote, plus Gungans are about the only "intelligent" life-form that I have anywhere near the mental capacity of at the moment ).

There needs to be trust on both sides, but a kid should also be allowed to have some privacy, in my opinion. (For example, I would never barge into my teen's room without knocking first, nor have I felt the need to spy on everything they were doing on the computer.) You should try to talk to your dad, yingisy. Enlist your mom's help in doing that, if necessary, since she seems to be understanding.

Good advice from Dr. Mom.

Naturally, you also have no right to demand trust from your father if you are doing something untrustworthy, like, you know, going through contortions to conceal an IM program from him.

I plan to never let my daughters leave the house until they are 50, meanwhile any son I have can do whatever he wants.
