Cannot connect through proxy

Hi:

I am at James Cook University, Townsville, Australia.

The only way to force an outgoing connection through the firewall is to autheticate in a web interface at least once every hour, which is a pain in the bum.

Everyone (using the windows MSN client) configures MSN to connect through the university's squid HTTPS proxy, which works fine.

However, I can't get it to work with Adium (X 0.84). I set it to connect via http to gateway.messenger.hotmail.com:80, through the HTTP proxy, but I get this error:

Code: Select all

 Connection error from Notification server (gateway.messenger.hotmail.com): Writing error 

It works fine via HTTP if I tell it not to use the proxy, and force a connection through the firewall.

Any ideas?
