Adium is slow!

Post by Fiddytree »

I have been using this for a while and now all of the sudden (.84) it just slowed down beyond comprehension and won't get any better. I have defragged, I have emptied cashes, I have reinstalled, I have pretty much done everything I can think of to speed up my iBook, but it just isn't penetrating to Adium.

From typing a message on a default Adium set-up, surfing through the Preferences, and sending contacts files, Adium takes a long time to respond to any and all tasks.

iBook G4
1.07 GHZ
1.25 GB RAM
Mac OS X 10.4.2
Adium .84

Edit: Right now it is going at normal speed, but I have no idea why.

Defragged? You're not using Norton Systemworks, are you? If so, I wish you the best of luck in fixing your computer.

Hey, that worked

Oh, and I have been using iDefrag for a bit. It's not that bad. At least from someone who goes through several gigs a day.

I just open up OnyX and do a complete optimization whenever I feel like a defrag. OS X typically doesn't need it as much 'cause HFS+ does some defragging on the fly (with hotspots and such).

Be careful with those optimization programs; Some of them (possibly all) open up a nice little security hole while they're running.

They also remove activation for some audio apps.

Each time I 'optimise' my drive, I have to insert my reason 3 cds to re-initialise the app. Very annoying.

I haven't tried OnyX. And sure, OS X doesn't need it as much, but 20 MB and under is hardly what I call useful towards my needs.

Anyhow, Adium is being useful again to me.
