Adium Ad?
Adium Ad?
Since Firefox's success in getting a New York Times ad, what do the devs thinking about setting up a link for donations which would go towards a MacAddict (or something similar, a popular Mac-oriented publication)? Let me know what you think - thanks!
I don't think it would be wise to make a major push considering we don't have a file transfer interface, status system upgrade, or documentation in place in a publicly available Adium and won't for a while.

This would be really cool, but I agree with bgannin and Lys that we'd better wait until 1.0 or sometime when Adium X is more "complete" in the mind of the public. When SpreadFirefox did their donations, you could choose to donate specifically to the New York Times campaign, or you could just make a general donation, which went to other SpreadFirefox-related stuff. I'd imagine it could be the same here, if this ever happened with Adium.

I think if anything placing adds on sites alike to Macupdate or version tracker (i know i know...) would be far more productive than putting something in the times. your target audience is mac users and only mac users, which account for a small percentage of computer using people.
word of mouth is pretty darn effective and seems to be enough for adium at the moment.

Agreed; that's why a Mac magazine was suggested, rather than a newspaper. But maybe even better than an ad would be if MacWorld reviewed Adium X (once it reached 1.0 or whatever) or compared it to other IM apps. I agree with you, though, that at least for now, word of mouth is best.Somethingiateforlunch wrote:I think if anything placing adds on sites alike to Macupdate or version tracker (i know i know...) would be far more productive than putting something in the times. your target audience is mac users and only mac users, which account for a small percentage of computer using people.

Adspace on major sites like VT & MU isn't cheap ($150 - $1000/month when last I checked)
