MSN Proxy connection problems

Post by kikuchiyo »

I did a couple of searches and couldn't find any info on this problem:

I can connect to MSN using the official client by manually setting my proxy as an HTTP proxy connecting to port 8080, no name or password. However, when I use the same settings in Adium to connect to MSN they don't work : MSN either reports I have the wrong password or it will just continue to try to connect. Adium connects to both ICQ and AIM just fine.

Thanks!

How do you connect to the MS servers without a username and password? *scratches head*

No user name/pass for the proxy, not for MSN.

Have you tried connecting with a username and password in Adium?

You aren't alone. I have the exact same problem. When connected to the office network, I have to use a proxy and Adium tries to connect for a few minutes and then crashes.

Sometimes it seems to connect, and shows my status as available, but my contact list never appears.

To get this to work on our University network, All port 80 & port 443 traffic must go through the proxy. but all other ports must go direct.

netstat -an shows Adium sending the port 80 traffic to our proxy server, yet the port 443 traffic appears to go direct. (which won't work here because of the router ACLs).

I've tried using the recommended PAC script for our proxy, and I've manually configured it to use the proxy for HTTP and HTTPS, but adium seems to ignore the HTTPS proxy setting.

MSN Messenger works fine (windows or mac) works fine on this network, but it isn't half as good as Adium.

When I connect my iBook via my home ISP (no proxy), adium works perfectly.

Is there any way I can tweak Adium to make port 443 traffic go via the proxy?

I don't believe HTTPS proxies are supported by libgaim at this time. You could file a bug report with your informative analysis of the reason this matters at The Gaim Bug Tracker
