Request: Offline/Invisible Warning Requestor Toggle Switch?

Post by darth »

Since Adium (and Mac YIM of course) doesn't support the Stealth settings that the PC version does (where you can remain selectively Invisible/Visible to specific friends on your list), my friends and I all end up staying Invisible most of the time.

The problem is, every time we want to chat with anyone whose status is Invisible; hitting Return/Enter after the first message brings up the same tedious requestor about "The contact you have sent a message is offline. How do you want to send the message?" Can you add a toggle in Preferences to turn this off? and/or a checkmark in the requestor itself asking "always/never ask before sending" or something?

thanks!

What's the matter with blocking people you don't want to talk to?

This 'stealth' mode stuff sounds really weird and pointless, I think...

Because blocking them may be too extreme a response to someone you're simply not in the mood to converse with for a while.

Not that hard to figure out.

whats weird and pointless about wanting to control who sees you online at any given time?

But functionally it's not any different... right? You're effectively preventing a contact/buddy from seeing your status (ie: blocking).

uh..do you understand how YIM's (for the PC) stealth works? you aren't chatting with someone invisible. you are chatting with someone visible. you are visible. they are visible. you just aren't visible to everyone on your list, but rather, just those you choose at that time to be visible to.

Because YIM for the Mac (and consequently I assume, Adium) doesn't allow for stealth, you ARE forced to "chat with someone whose status is invisible". AND get a requestor reminding you of that fact every time you start.

Here it is short and simple. Darth is requesting a button that you can hit like the PC version of the eye, and when you talk to a person who is invisible (but you know they are there or online) to not send that message saying they may be offilne or invisible send now? I think it would be preety cool. Please correct me if I misunderstood someone. :)

Please file a trac ticket requesting a checkbox or button in the sheet when sending to an offline contact to always attempt to send.
The duck still burns.

Blocking would prevent them from contacting you. This is more akin to ICQ's list of who you is privileged enough to see that you're online regardless of what you set your status to. A more basic equivalent would be if AIM gave you the option of only letting certain people add you to their buddy list (If I DOES have that, I wouldn't know about it).

Essentially, it's just like regular old invisible, except instead of hiding from everyone (and saying "Hey I'm not really offline just invisible" to people you want to talk to), you're only hiding from certain people. You still want the messages from the people that don't know you're there, you just don't want them to know you're reading it right then.

Things like that are handy if you have multiple kinds of social circles on your buddy list. Maybe sometimes you want your drinking buddies IMing you about the hot chick they saw, but sometimes you just want to talk to your family. The alternative would be having an alternate screen name that you only give out to certain people or only allowing a few people to add you to their contact lists. But that's unwieldy for other people involved (Not so much the person doing the hiding, though)

Edit: I am very verbose.
