Creating Message Styles for Dummies
Creating Message Styles for Dummies
I've tried to create my own message style, under the guidance of a tutorial mentioned on the Xtras site, but clearly, this is not my forte. I was wondering if someone had made one that slow people like me can understand (and I mean, REALLY slow - I also know no HTML or CSS....perhaps I should start there), and how I could access said tutorial. Thanks.

Ya, if you have no knowledge of CSS, creating a message style will be very difficult for youkgates wrote:... I also know no HTML or CSS....perhaps I should start there)
There could be however, someone out here on the forums who might be willing to help you out though.
I wish I knew more CSS, but I am limited to colors, and some other basic things for web pages...
I made a tutorial, which aims to be an introduction to (X)HTML, CSS, and message style writing.
Also, I recommend taking apart / breaking / tweaking other message styles; the coding isn't too complicated, so once you know what the basic structure is seeing other people's styles should be very informative.

I wonder why do you need to connect to port 8000?Perez wrote:I made a tutorial, which aims to be an introduction to (X)HTML, CSS, and message style writing.

Thanks to help me to understand...

Yep. I think I could run it over port 80 while I'm at college, but from home our ISP blocks 80, so I use 8000, and in an effort not to break links (a.k.a. laziness) I've left it there.snarfer wrote:Its if the server is run off of a non-corprate internet connection (standard ones that you're probably using now), the ISP usually blocks port 80 (http:// port) and an alternative is to use the 160x or 8000 ports.

Why do they block port 80?
Anyway, if you want a MAJOR "message style for dummies" style result, I've had good results taking a style I liked, viewing package contents, and changing the images used.
I turned the FF4 theme into an Earthbound theme. Not a terribly pretty one, but okay. Complete with friend's contacts being Mr. Saturn.

I'm much smarter now!snarfer wrote:Its if the server is run off of a non-corprate internet connection (standard ones that you're probably using now), the ISP usually blocks port 80 (http:// port) and an alternative is to use the 160x or 8000 ports.biglittledragoon wrote: I wonder why do you need to connect to port 8000?
