Bold Italics?

Post by Twelve Motion »

Text formatting doesn't seem to work with any font or style. I hit apple I or B and it never changes my text. It flashes the toolbar like it's working, but nothing happens. the people i send messeges too also don't get the formatting. Even if I manually go to the format pulldown menu, I don't get anything.

I have done some more tinkering and I have got this problem pin pointed.

I re-installed and all three worked fine. However as soon as I changed the standard text from Lucida to sometihng else, (Comic sans, or Optima) I lost the ability to bold and italicize. However even if I put Lucida back I still couldn't, I had to re-install adium again. I can repeat the problem at will, and I have had a few friends also replicate it.

What does "changed the standard text" mean? What does "re-install Adium" mean?

I do a spotlight search for "adium" and throw everything into the trash. Then I go to the site, download adium and install it as directed.

If I touch nothing, I can bold and italicize fine. The default text is Lucida Grande (for me at least, I don't know if it's standard or what.) I can change the buddy list style, messege style all I want. However if I switch the messege font to comic sans, than I can't bold or italicize, even if I set Lucida grande back.

If I re-install as I said above, I get the formatting options back.

I'm bumping this because while I can bold, I cannot use italics. I am using adium .87 and italicize is greyed out in both the context menu and the format menu.

http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/2443 I think this is the problem but I seem to remember in past versions being able to easily italicize so what changed?

Lucida grande 12- I think that's the default and I've been using it all along.

Lucida Grande doesn't support italics. Any italicized Lucida is synthesized IIRC, which Adium doesn't do.

I'm using 1.0svn and using Helvetica I'm able to hit Cmmd+I and italicize it (to Oblique) and the same applies to Arial.

I am bumping this yet again as I am now using Adium 0.88 and italics still do not work as in the screen shot above. (Bold does)

Italics work for me, and always have. I can set it by hitting Command - I, and also by highlighting and right-clicking, as in your screeshot. Have you tried looking at your font in Fontbook to see if it in fact has an italic?

Alright seems to be fixed by a combination of the 0.88 update and changing to arial font.

Some fonts do not have italics.
