You could always decompress the file on your computer and upload the contents to the server.

Yes.
But my problem is that when I have to update my CMS or my web stats software, I have a lot of little files to upload : about 700 files of 4 ko ... and there's always an error of timeout or transfert failled ... that append.

And some ftp client have this possibility to unzip an archive : so why not with Cyberduck ?

owch. this is exactly why the question was asked, it is _very_ problematic to do as you suggest.

Unzip in an FTP program is the holy grail for us CMS users.
