Configureable default jabber conference server?

Post by zhasper »

Hi all!

Back on the last incarnation of the forums, I mooted the idea of a configureable defaut jabber conference server, to wide acclaim.

Strangely, when I went to write the topic for this post my browser still remembered the subject line from last time..

At present, if my jabber server is jabber.example.com, adium guesses that my conference server is conference.jabber.example.com; this is a sensible guess, but it's incorrect in my particular case, and means I have to type the full name of my conference server by hand each time I connect to a new room.

It would be extremely useful if I could specify, per account, the default conference server for that account

Last time I raised this, on the previous forum, various of the wonderful developers suggested this feature might be active as early as 0.73; it still hasn't surface even on 0.74 (although a lot of other great stuff has been done, thanks guys :)

Is this still planned to be included at some point?

Cheers!

Long term solution, yes, I agree this is a good idea.

Short term. Go into netinfo manager, and then add an entry for conference.whatever or whatever hostname you want pointing at the conference room server. This should resolve the general issue for you, unless they set it up on a dhcp that renews a lot, etc.

Bah. Bah. Bah.

Yep, that's exactly what I'd suggest to a client as a short-term solution if they came to me with that problem. Why do I not think of these things myself?

Thanks :)
