Mass message
Artanis, I believe it's been established that you are vastly in the minority here. Fictitious YIM users backing you up won't sway us.
If you know oh-so-many people who have such a desperate need to spam everyone they know, they're perfectly welcome to use Yahoo's client instead.
I will say that if a "friend" has a link that he or she thinks I would find so interesting, they can IM me personally. Anyone who bulk-contacts me with "Hey guys check this out" 90% of the time isn't directing it at me... or even more than 5 people... and 100% of the time the link or message is excruciatingly stupid. Also 100% of the time, they are blocked.
If one's own personal experience is to dictate the assumption of what everyone else does, then I have to say that everyone demands a feature that automatically blocks anyone who sends you an automated message.

The people that I am spoking for are not fictious, they are my collegues at work and my friends from the chat, you want me to tell everyone to get an account on this forum just to say that they want this?
Could someone please tell me in what program I can create a script and where I get the source from? Also some tutorials would be nice.
I will try to create the patch myself, but I won't post it nowhere on this forum or on the Adium website, because all of you don't want it.

Actually, no. These forums should represent a slice of Adium users, not a deluge of random people who come in to request a feature for a contact in a client they don't use on possibly a platform they don't use.Githon wrote:Yes.Artanis wrote:you want me to tell everyone to get an account on this forum just to say that they want this?

A little more help please.evands wrote:Here is the Broadcaster script which messages every open window. It is an excercise for the reader to apply this to every contact.
If I edit the readme this will change the script?
I would like to know in what programming language I have to work, woth what program I can open the script and like I said, some tutorials links, because I am pretty noob.
Thank you
Language: AppleScript
Application: /Applications/AppleScript/Script Editor.app
Resources: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/ap ... urces.html
ReadMe is likely just that, a ReadMe file in plain text. You'll want to edit the script file (which is likely inside the .adiumScript bundle or whatever it is)
You need to put in effort to do this yourself - not everyone is going to spoon-feed you what you need [especially when it comes to programming.] Google is your friend.

I never enable thisArtanis wrote:bgannin wrote:AIM and other services often limit the number of messages that you can send per minute, which is one limitation. As to the not being spam because they are your friends - what's to stop me from creating a new account right now, culling every IM from this very board to add to a buddy list, and using the "mass IM" feature to blast out whatever I want to everyone? That's what the spam reference is to.. there's no inherent way to protect from that really other than to not allow the situation to occur. (yes, only accept from people on list is an option, but that requires every user to make sure this is enabled)
Of course it is enabled, I don't know anyone with this option disabled.
Most spam comes from bots, which don't have a gui and have smart stuff setup to allow multiple accounts to log in and im multiple folks from a list with these accounts so as to not cause their accounts to be destroyed as fast. A small amount of spam occurs due to official and third party aggregating clients like adium I think, but mostly it's bots from what I've looked at.
That said, I think it's useful, but I also am not the typical im user. We have a lot of other requests that are not nearly as controversial that need to be implemented.

I don't think he was in the mood to be given a hard time.Githon wrote:I'm just giving him a hard time

Thank you very much man.cbarrett wrote:Right click and do "show package contents." There is an applescript file in there, you'll be able to edit it with AppleScript Editor that came with your computer.
Read the documentation bgannin linked to (and search google!) for more information about AppleScript.
