How do i let only ONE contact be accessible

Post by rurikvred »

Hi,

During business chats with a specific client, I'd like to be able to have all other chat contacts be told "I'm Away", so i don't get interrupted in the one chat.

However, I can't find anything that says "Chat With This Contact Only" or "Chat With This Group Only" settings to keep all other contacts from reaching me during this chat.

if you could have a setting that allows "Individual" chats or "group chats", that would be terrific.

Any ideas?

You could just set your status to "Away" but continue to talk.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe the protocol itself supports different statuses like that.

Selective Messaging

So if i'm in a conversation with one person, I could go up and select "away" in the status bar, and that window would still operate? WOuldn't my continued messaging override the "away" setting and initiate my online status?

I'll give it a try. However, how cool would it be that you could actually select those you want to talk to and those you don't?

You can talk to people while you have an away message up, and Adium will not set your status to available. As far as being able to be 'Available' to only certain people and not others... I'm not sure any protocols support that.

Just start a conversation with them and then go invisible. You can talk to him and he can talk to you as long as you keep the chat window open. This might be more effective because other people cant IM you while with an away message you can still be bothered.

MSN doesn't let you send messages while invisible, but AIM does. Pff, Microsoft...

There was a thread about this in the past. I think you have to already be talking to someone when you go invisible, or something like that. Someone found an obscure set of circumstances where somehow it works.
