Some Features I would love to see in Adium.

Post by Smacmac »

It is some features that I think would make adium the absoulte nr.1 IM client for mac (I guess you have heard that one before).

You see I don't care about most fancy features like nudges and winks and I cannot say that I really want them... On the other hand it is a problem when I cannot see them. I will never manage to know all the info the ones I am chating with thinks that I know.

Therefore I wonder how hard it would be to implent a feature like:

- "Contact x" sent you a nudge
- "Contact x" sent you a winks names "name"
- "Contact x" tried to send you a drawing"

and so on. That way I may tell him that I can not see what he tried to show me. In adition I would love to see my contacts personal messanges.

I don't know how hard it is to implent such features or if it is suport in gaim to do so. But it is often a bit irritating not to know everything I should know when someone refers to his/her personal message or to a wink I don't even knew they had sent me.

Thanks for all answers.

It's coming, almost EVERY feature which you said, or is avaible in the MSN network alredy exist, or is in the works.(and me saying it alredy exist, then I mean a workable build of GAIM)

Adium is built on GAIM, http://gaim.sourceforge.net and it's by libgaim we get features. So if you have a feature you want, ask GAIM instead of us. Devs will implement it when it's ready and there isn't any other features/bugs that is prioritized.

You are 100% correct. It's said every time somebody has something they think is important to add. Case in point.
Try my software!

#define ADIUMX pimp //by me
#define QUESTION ((2b) || (!2b))
Have you hugged a programmer today?

That is great! I was just afraid that they wouldn't be implented as the devs waited until they could suport real winks, nudges etc.

Just as a little nudge to the devs, it would be nice if the blog got updated now and then with tidbits about what's going on in dev world. Especially with stuff about AdiumX 1.0 and libgaim 2.0, it seems like it's a bit hard to figure out where the state of things are unless you want to wade through trac and figure it out. And after all, isn't that what the blog is there for?
Maybe just a paragraph or two every week would help reduce the number of questions about "what's the status of feature X?" and the like.

I recently got an account on the adium blog, so I'll probably post about some of the stuff I've been working on (with pictures, even... perhaps). The libgaim stuff is pretty inscrutable to me though, so don't expect a whole lot on that front.
