contact list merging

Post by nontoxic »

I got a Powebook about 2 months ago and soon after discovered Adium and have been absolutely in love with it ever since. I haven't seen anything in adium's preferences for this so I figured I'd ask here. Is it possible with multiple accounts, to not have your contact lists merged? If it's not, is this possibly something that Adium could do in the future? Thanks in advance for any help.

Contact lists are server based, so Adium can't really do anything about it. But, you can connect your account to an official client and export your buddy list, and load it with the second screenname. This is how AIM does it, but I don't know about any of the other protocols.

And “mayb” “u” should spell correctly :D

That solution would seem the most logical; I think this is coming in 1.0…

Would using the Address Book integration and 'Consolidate contacts listed in the card' not offer a similar function?

I use this feature and only have one name shown for the same contact across multiple protocols!

It means keeping your Address Book Contacts up to date, but most folk do that anyway, don't they?

So having the ability to keep contact lists from separate accounts separated is not coming to adium then? Dissappointed to hear it but keep up the good work none the less.

While there need to be improvements to managing separate contact lists, there is no sane reason to separate contact lists by account. Adium is a single instant messaging program and provides a single interface to all your instant messagig accounts.

One certainly could create groups and use them in a manner which effectively separates by account.

Exactly… I thought… there was a ticket… or a changeset… or something ;)

Guess not; don’t quote that anymore!
