In my current implementation, users are able to badge the blocked icon to a contact's display picture.

Something else that might be good (Particularly for an iconless contact list or message style) is if it's possible, just have the name with a strike through it.

Won't happen, sorry. We've experimented with that idea and decided against it.

Since MSN and maybe others show blocked contacts as online what about a possibility to "hide blocked contacts" just as it is possible to "hide offline contacts"? Just a thought from my side...

oops found that it already was a note in the track about this...

If you don't want to see someone in your list, remove him/her from your list :)
