I did a search for this and didn't find any threads with this topic.
I've noticed that Adium doesn't come to the front when it is launched with the Growl plug-in enabled. However, it does come to the front when the plug-in is disabled. I'm currently running Growl 0.5 and Adium 0.75.1, but I've been noticing this for a long time in Adium.
Other Growl-enabled apps such as Cyberduck and Colloquy do come to the front when they are launched, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with Growl.
Just an interesting little issue. Anyone else noticing this?

You're right that it's an issue with the Growl plugin.. good debugging.
Specifically, the function used to launch the Growl helper app makes it grab focus... of course, it runs in the background and is invisible, so this just means that Adium loses focus. The problem is fixed in newer versions of the class Adium and other applications use to talk to Growl. Adium 0.80 is going to be a Growl pioneer, actually, not only using the new framework but including a full Growl installation for those unlucky souls who don't have it yet... and does not have this problem. Adium 0.7x will most likely not see an upgraded Growl plugin, unfortunately, as it would require more than a few changes (unless someone else feels like doing the upgrade, in which I'd be happy to apply a patch...)
