Getting german "Umlauts" to work

Post by rickski »

Hi,
I always have the problem that german umlauts "ÄÖÜ,äöü,ß" arrive as "ƒ÷‹,‰ˆ¸,fl" ... Is there a way to fix this?

They arrive on your computer like that, or other people receive the umlauts incorrectly?

Are you using the German localization of Adium?

Umlauts I'm typing arrive correct, but messages sent to me which contains umlauts arrive like above. No I'm not using any localisation.

This might be related to the things I am experiencing: http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/2784

For me it is the autoreply message in the message window that shows weird things. ä, ö, ü, etc. arrive fine.

This is with the Spanish localization. Haven't tested the English or German one.

I found a solution. In the account preferences of ICQ ("Options") I switched from "MacRoman" encoding to "ISO-8859-15". Works now.
