Hah… that’s what everyone OBJECTED to. It’s because the icons stay and are never updated; hence, you see the same icons all the time.

Adium caches the most recent buddy icon.

Can could just drag them oout into a folder of your own?
It causes problems and also would eventually just take up space if you cached every icon. Very untidy

And why not keep the olders display pictures too???

Because only the most recent one matters to most users?
You can drag the icon out of the Get Info window on a contact, so if you see an icon you want to keep, just do that.

You can save the display pictures automatically using "automator" and "folder actions"

but you can use the option "when a file is added".
you tell automator to move every picture added to that folder so every time a user changes its picture it will be added to caches folder.... and moved to your folder
that's what i did and it works

YEEAAAAH! I've updated my copy of Adium to 0.88 and now it updates display pictures instantly. Other issues related to MSN were fixed, I'm fuckin' happy.
Thank you all, Adium team, very much for all efforts. :]

You kiss you're mummy with that mouth, boy? ;-)
While we're all glad you're happy you don't need to make others unhappy.

hey that sounds like a really cool workflow, could you post the details of how you made it? or make it available for download - i've tried to figure it out myself, I managed to copy all the items and change their file extension to jpg, but i cant find the 'when a new file is added option' anywhere.
so if you could post details or a link, i would be most grateful :-D
