iChat features missing on Adium
iChat features missing on Adium
iChat has some great features that Adium could definitely use, just thought I'd point these out:

Re: iChat features missing on Adium
iChat has the same spell checking Adium does -- it's a systemwide standard, in fact, for all Cocoa applications.Travis wrote:[*]very nice spell checking

Search the forums, all of these are covered in some form or another.Travis wrote:iChat has some great features that Adium could definitely use, just thought I'd point these out:Anything else?

Adium uses libgam for handling with most IM services; in those services voice is not working yet, but eventually (in the long term) it will. Libgaim doesnt support skype, and as far as i know its not in their plans (gaim team) to implement it. Probably google talk will be the first of those sysyems to recive that kind of support.... google is oficially supporting that development.Rita wrote:What's the point of skype on adium if voice isn't working, yet?Travis wrote:Also, would it be even remotely possible to get Skype on Adium, or are the Skype people not allowing that.
The only the skype support could happen is with some kind of plug-in made by the skype guys, something like gizmo guys did (check adium xtras).
The point is that all that is not in the hands of adium devs.
pd: Search the forum or the wiki before posting; this had been discussed a lot!!!
Still would be nice to at least have the skype contacts in Adium and be able to start a call from within Adium without having to go through the huge Skype buddy list or the hideous menu bar item.djmori wrote:Adium uses libgam for handling with most IM services; in those services voice is not working yet, but eventually (in the long term) it will. This would be a very appropriate thing for an Adium plugin to provide; I believe the SkypeNet API allows for this. Note that Skype's frameworks can not be used in Adium directly even if we want to due to licensing issues.Diatribe wrote:Still would be nice to at least have the skype contacts in Adium and be able to start a call from within Adium without having to go through the huge Skype buddy list or the hideous menu bar item.djmori wrote:Adium uses libgam for handling with most IM services; in those services voice is not working yet, but eventually (in the long term) it will. Ah, I didn't know that but it makes sense. Thanks for pointing that out. A plug-in would solve that nicely, now we'd only need someone to program it.evands wrote:This would be a very appropriate thing for an Adium plugin to provide; I believe the SkypeNet API allows for this. I guess there are more important things to program for Adium than this but I surely wouldn't be disappointed if someone wrote such a plugin.
Also for iChat
This would also work for me in iChat if it could just launch iChat and initiate a video or audio chat for now without having to have both running.
Now if I only had the developer chops to do it myself...
