Google Talk and new mail notification

Post by ocid »

Howdy,

why the checkmark in "Display new mail notification" in Google Talk account is grayed out? And why it's on by default? I want it disabled because I don't like the (ugly) dialog box which it pops out everytime I got a gmail.

On every other account it can be disabled, why not on google talk?

Set up your account as an actual Google Talk account and not as a Jabber account and it won't be disabled.

It is disabled because Jabber accounts do not support mail notifications.

Sorry, I put a subject that would have helped a little.

What I was saying is before I switched the acccount from jabber to gtalk, it would occassionally annouce mail, sometimes it wouldn't. But I find that's the case with it set to gtalk as well. When does it check and announce, at some interval of some sort? I was using adium all evening last night with a client, and it never announced new mail, though over 8 pieces came in over the course of the evening. Just curious, I didn't find any other info on this feature.

Thanks.
