Keeping Contact Lists Synced Between Two Computers

Post by davekoch »

I have a PowerBook and and Intel iMac, and I use AudiumX on both. Is there any way to keep my contact lists in AudiumX synced between the two computers?

The contacts are stored on the server so no matter where you log in, you should get same contacts. At least on msn

That's really interesting, and it makes a lot of sense. But I don't think it's working, keeping the contacts synced, at least with AIM. Any idea of AIM and MSN work differently?

Umm... You sure you are connecting with the same accounts on each computer? With pretty much every service, contacts are stored on a server, so connecting with another computer, the contacts will appear. Are you talking about syncing *just* the contacts, or are you talking groups? And when you connect with another computer, what happens? Do you just have no contact list, or something?

Aliases and some other things are stored locally and will not be synced by the server. There were few talks about .mac syncing (search!), but obviously it wont be useful for people who don't have a .mac account (like me). I'm adding syncing to ChatKit's TODO list, so that someday it'll be available for Adium. Don't expect it to happen any time soon though

Aliases are stored serverside (in addition to locally) for some services -- I know offhand that they are for AIM.

Don't know about AIM, but ICQ aliases are never synced for me

I've also been having issues with contacts moving between groups not sticking on clients other than Adium (i.e. when I use meebo or winaim, people I've moved around are in their original groups).
