Hey, no need to get embarrassed. I only catch other people's spelling errors, not my own. ;)

(Sometimes, if I'm not sure, I google the word and google will ask me: "Did you mean: embarrassed" :P)

Re: Who needs 1.0?

To quote Evan:

Code: Select all

Very, very few good programs have 1.0 as its final release. I think 1.0 is a good version number, so far as such things matter at all (which isn't really all that much), at which to say, "This program is, at least for the most part, fundamentally what I set out to create. It does things I like, things it should do, and what it does it does very well."

1.0 is just a number, but people attach all sorts of emotions to it. In the end, I like Evan's quote the best.

It's kinda cool that evan even speaks in code.

I always see 1.0 as the full, intended release.

1.0 is what was set out to be created and is the first, full version of the application. When it reachs 1.0 it is 'finished'.

After that though there are bug fixes and then, if your lucky, 1.5 and 2.0 releases which go beyond and improve the 1.0 release.

0.X releases always seem like milestones on the road to 1.0 to me

Oh, just fyi: anything in the "fixed" list for 1.0 was not merged back into 0.8x. If we merged it, we changed the milestone as well. Currently there are 226 tickets marked as fixed for 1.0 :)

Take iTunes for example. We've come a long, long way since iTunes 1.0.

which isn't even complete since not every change had an associated ticket :D The SubEthaEdit session for the changelog should be a blast ;-)

Nope. Not for a long time. Unless, you know, someone were to work on it that wanted it. And like, has cameras. Like, you know, how most Adium devs do not have.
