I normally use the Google Talk client on my computer at work and noticed that it connects to the google talk server through port 443, which it seems to choose automatically, because all the other standard ports are blocked.
Today I am using my PowerBook, because of issues with my PC and I can't seem to get Adium to talk using this method.
Any suggestions?
BTW Google seems to indicate port 443 as a valid port:

We discussed different port numbers in this thread:
http://forums.cocoaforge.com/viewtopic.php?t=6560
but I think 443 never came up.
My personal sum up was this:
5222 'new SSL'
5223 'old SSL'
Is 443 for some reason the only port available to you? If not, I recommend using 5222 instead.

443 is the only port available in this regards. The company uses the approach of closing all the ports and then only opens them on a case by case basis.

I tried with a bunch of different servers and settings, both in Adium and Gaim, but I can't get it to work.

Any chance we could add this as a 'feature request'?

The problem is that the servers will also need to be listening on that port.

Google Talk already listens on that port. Another site that supports this is
Jabber80 .

Just have word that Google has made a code change that will allow you to connect to talk.google.com on port 443, using SSL.
Tried it and it works
Looks like we can close the bug.
