Why "Adium 2.0"?
Why "Adium 2.0"?
why is adium's support folder called Adium 2.0? is there another app called Adium out there? did you release Adium 1.0 and then change it's name at the last minute without telling me?
short story: adium 2.0 was renamed to adium x

It's not changed and probably will never be changed, its a lot of work for something no one really cares about that could end up braking adium.

Changing it would require code to detect and move old support folders, and insure no problems occur, as well as remove mentions of the old folder path in the app. All this for a folder that the user is not meant to see or interact directly with.

It's funny, with all the posts this has earned in the past, it would have been quicker to make the change!
I can't speak for the application side (changing every mention of the folder in the code), but isn't this going to eventually be changed, and is it not better to simply do it now? Especially considering that 1.x is going to be a big release, and there will (if I'm not mistaken) be an Setup Assistant of some sort?
Just thinking that 1.x would be a good time to change it once and for all (to AdiumX), if only to clear up some of the posts on the forums!

Perhaps it could be made part of the migration assistant or whatever it's called that will transfer old logs and stuff too. That is, if it's going to be changed.ravijo wrote:I can't speak for the application side (changing every mention of the folder in the code), but isn't this going to eventually be changed, and is it not better to simply do it now? I suppose if it breaks anything, it'd be mainly extras? Or are a bunch of the paths hardcoded?
Personally I'd like to know why this is such a concern. You (as a user) aren't meant to see or interact with this folder, it's managed by Adium so for all intents and purposes it could be called FooBarLou and not make a difference.

I would like to suggest that if you do change the folder's name, change it to FooBarLou.bgannin wrote:Personally I'd like to know why this is such a concern. I wasn't overly concerned, but I saw the post and I know I wondered myself a while ago what was up with that (Google answered my question). I just thought that if it really comes up as a question that often, the best place to work with it and change things would be the migration support bits.
