New Adium user here! would appreciate some pointers

ok, so far this thing is pretty cool. I was tired of aim, its not mactel native yet, and ichat still sucks.

But i need some help with this thing.


1. how do i add/remove buddies from this list (say if i never could go on either ichat or aim)

2. i cant seem to find a way to open new chats on seperate windows?

3. when someone signs on, their names get highlighted , how can i adjust/change that?

4. i dont see an option for video chat...is there one? or will it be coming soon, at all?

5. how can i get the ducky to bounce instead of flap his wings when someone ims me?

Try control clicking and choosing "remove" from the contextual menu.

You can drag the tabs out of the window to create your own new windows. Other than that you can permanently change it in the preferences. Its under general. "Create new messages in tabs." Uncheck it.

Under Apperance preferences, click customize next to the color scheme.

I don't think you can.

to add a new person: go to the contact menu, then add contact
to remove a person: right click on their name and click "delete"

Go to preferences then the General tab. Untick the option to "create new messages in tabs"

This is a bit more difficult. Go to preferences again, but this time the Appearance tab. Next to "colour theme" there should be a "customise" button. This will bring a dialogue up, go to the Events tab. If you've managed to follow my instructions this far: well done! Untick the "Come online" box.

No there currently isnt any video/voice chat. There is no developement on it as yet for various reasons.

anyways, this instant messanger is awesome. i love it.


the only thing it lacks isthe video unabled chat and audio conferencing. i already deleted aim, all it takes is for Adium to give us video chat and i'll delete ichat.

Please don't ask for A/V support, it's been done to death. It's incredibly complex and discussed more than you can imagine.

As for your 5th question, use the Events pane. Add a new event for "new message", select "bounce the dock icon once.

On a side note, we really need some documentation for the events system.
