new user here: few questions
so far i love this client but man the learning curve to this thing is lthe hardest out of any other client out there. why?
maybe cuz theres so much on it? dunno but anyways
how come i cant find a way to edit my contact list? adding and removing people (even though i know how to do it) isn't so simple.
also, how do i delete or edit someone i added to another account (icq)?
i cant even see that list at all or any buddy list for that matter besides aims.

Are you logged into your other accounts? Once you are logged into any accounts whose contact lists you want to edit, go to the View menu and select Show Offline Contacts. All your contacts will appear. To edit one, select it in the list and go to Contact > Get Info. To delete it, go to Contact > Remove. To add a contact, go to Contact > Add Contact….Digi V wrote:i cant even see that list at all or any buddy list for that matter besides aims.

Perhaps this will be helpful http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/ManagingContacts
it may be very interesting to tell us what you've tried to delete contacts.
For technical folks, like the devs everything in Adium is quite logical.
It's always nice to tell us "i did this and I expected that to happen"...
Also telling us what you had to learn to use AdiumX would be very helpfull. The devs could eventually change the GUI so as to be more intuitive towards new users...

tick-everything seems more logical once you "know".
ok, for example
why cant we move buddies around when boarderless window option is on?
also, "organize tabs into new windows by group" for the basic aim user they would have no clue what this means. specially since this function isn't a common one amongst other aim services.
the custmoize option for blinking notices is a bit hidden, sure its easy to find after you know but still it couldve been easier.
the blocking user list/option can only be done AFTER you click someone? cuz what if you just want to punch in a name before this person signs on?
an easier buddylist edit option would be nice. something for all the services and accounts you have.
having to go and click on "show offline contacts" wouldn't be the first thing someone thinks of when trying to edit their buddylist.
these are just some of the questions i had that i'm sure some newbie users would ask as well.
also, whats the deal with no video chat? is this something apple has locked up? what about the inserting a picture in an instant message option? everytime i'm sent or sending a file it comes straight through and saves on my desktop.

Hold down command and drag. It used to be the other way around (command-drag to move, drag to rearrange contacts) but users complained. If you can think of a solution that allows for both moving the window and moving contacts, we'd love to hear it.Digi V wrote:tick-everything seems more logical once you "know".

Feel free to suggest a better wording.also, "organize tabs into new windows by group" for the basic aim user they would have no clue what this means. specially since this function isn't a common one amongst other aim services.
Basically we feel most people won't want to change this setting. There are a limited number of preferences we have room for, so we make the most common ones easy to access. A redesign of preferences is in progress, though.the custmoize option for blinking notices is a bit hidden, sure its easy to find after you know but still it couldve been easier.
Fixed for 1.0the blocking user list/option can only be done AFTER you click someone? cuz what if you just want to punch in a name before this person signs on?
Well, for most stuff you don't have to show offline contacts. However, show offline will be the default in 1.0.an easier buddylist edit option would be nice. something for all the services and accounts you have.

All of the instant messaging services except Jabber are "locked up". Other IM clients like Adium and gaim can only access them because some programmers have spent a long time analyzing the packets going over the network to determine how they work. Only some of their functionality (text chat, sending files, status changes, etc...) has been reverse engineered so far. Sending pictures will work properly in 1.0.also, whats the deal with no video chat? is this something apple has locked up? what about the inserting a picture in an instant message option? everytime i'm sent or sending a file it comes straight through and saves on my desktop.
maybe there could be an option for adding boarders on windows without going above, maybe it can be somewhere on the blist layout. kinda like aim, there is a setup function at the bottom. maybe there could be a symbol?
OR
what if there were designated corners on the layout when clicked the user could then move the layout across the desktop.
i'd kinda like a hidden litle symbol at the bottom of the boarderless window, when clicked, boarders will just appear. something sleek, pulsating kinda?
anyways, just suggestions.
when is 1.0 comin?

someone asked to add you to their list. It doesn't mean they're on your list. They can message you, but you can't message someone that isn't on your list.
On the message asking your authorisation, there's a checkbox to add them to your list. Check it and they'll be on it.
If you want add this person, learn about it here: http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/ManagingContacts
