Multiple Users

Could someone tell me if there is a way to set adium up for multiple useres? I sometimes have friends visit who want to sign on to their IM accounts and it would be handy is I could let them do this through adium instead of the official client or something else that I don't really want to have to have on my computer.

If there isn't a way to do this why not? It can sing me off my account to sign them on, I don't really care about that. Just the option to have several people use the program. I know Trillian has this option, though I don't know what it is called, as a reference point. Or like when you sign onto aim and it asks your sn and password... I think I can stop explaining now.

that's nice. the option to create multiple profiles should be placed somewhere else too.... (setup wizard of 1.0 perhaps?)

I thought I remembered someone saying this feature might disappear in future versions of Adium...?

We've been arguing about whether and how to expose this better. No conclusions have been reached, afaik.

It also has a bug with plugins: if you need to authorize a plugin, and you have the profiles window set to pop at launch, adium will crash after you authorize that plugin. I never bothered to investigate this since it was meant for only devs' usage anyway...
I don't even know if it still exists, but I don't think that area of the code has changed lately. I noticed this but in .7 or something like that.

A thing I would like to see incorporated is a profile that doesn't store anything.
When a friend comes, he doesn't want my computer to store his password and he doesn't need the chatlogs.

A kind of "quick-login" or "public-login". But it has been set as "wontfix" by devs since that's not in the goal of what they want to make.
I think this is what the original poster was asking for...

Setting a blank password for an account will make Adium pop up with a password request dialog whenever you try to connect ;)

Great! hope you guys can find a nice way to implement that.

what ofri means is that adium should auto-delete those (one-time-use) accounts

Perhaps in the list of accounts in the File menu, there could be a "Connect: Other..." option. This would bring up a login/password window, and someone could then login temporarily without creating a new account in Adium. Just my sleep-deprived mind brainstorming (although it's more like a harmless shower than a storm).

Adium will NOT auto delete anything

Yes -- I like the idea of a guest log in... let them chose one or several different services and just don't sore anything for them, when they sign off it is all gone.

I like this idea too... but If I'm going to be signed in at the same time you'd need to make sure to keep the contact losts seperate, otherwise that could lead to a lot of confusion.

I just tried out the hold option thing and that kind of works. It would be nice to have "guest" in there as a default where Adium dosen't retain the information. It would also be nice to have the checkbox to make it be visible every time you start up in the main preferences too (probably under General, or possibly advanced).

Just having the Guest sign in available there would be perfect for me.

Well, seeing how this is something just for development, we generally want to save the data.

Well, I'm going to use it, now that I know how to, not for development; I think a lot of others would too. I'm just saying that I think it is something worth developing a little more. But then I know nothing about programming and how difficult this would be to do.
