Its the little things

Post by medicine »

Just wanted to say thanks to the developer/s that seems to be starting to look at the little things that could be changed in adium to make the user experience that little bit better. I have noticed a couple of things in 1.0 that have had me smile, for example moving contacts from group to group or creating meta's. Also moving on and off the status and name selector is slightly animated :D

would love to see animated movement of contacts (for when there status changes little like ichat)

also animated contact list resizing

For me its the little touches that give a product its shine

Everything you've listed has either been in SVN or Adium for quite a while now?

Which the poster indicated. Instead they are asking for what's traditionally called "eye candy" and doesn't have definitive add-in value, only "show off" value.
Try my software!

#define QUESTION ((2b) || (!2b))
Have you hugged a programmer today?

You have to be careful not to write any visual effects off as eye candy. Lets just remember that before the genie effect and the windows title bar flickering shrink minimise animation some people who used windows thought that the application had actually closed when they minimised it so would open another copy of it.
Thus the genie effect is often wrote off as eye candy but really it serves an important purpose for novice users.

However in this case they do seem more in the eye candy camp. Adium already has some intelligent visual cues like when people go offline they drop to the bottom of the list and change colour and remain for a few seconds before disappearing into the offline abyss.
